CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Melissa is a girl with many insecurities and fears; she constantly is in need for someone or something.  She suffers from Insomnia, and can only seem to sleep well when her husband is present.  She is very fragile in her mind state, due to her lack of rest; she is incoherent for most of this story.  There is though a peaceful state of being that is ever constant in this film, due to the fact she is knows she is going to commit suicide that night, her soul, although disturbed, she is at peace with what she is about to do.  A lot of that is due to her sleep deprivation which causes the mind to be instable, yet she seems at peace with what she is about to do, her theory, since her husband is dead, so is she, her one true soul mate that brings her so much joy, without him she has deemed herself useless, therefore her existence is pointless and meaningless without him.

To play the character, Melissa has to seem very tired of course; a few days sleep can do that to you.  Her Voice Overs are monotone, but yet very poetic.  She also has to present a calm-like peaceful state in the present day scenes; the flashbacks scenes are ones of confusion and unknown, due to the reasoning that, its late night, and she hasn’t gotten much sleep.  The Slightest things drive her paranoia running wild.  Her present day insomnia, difficulties are treated more as a calm state, a few days have past since she accidentally shot her husband, she is at peace with what has happened.  And knows that to escape those flashbacks and guilt, there’s only one way she can ever find peace and happiness and that’s being with her husband, and joining him in death.

VISUAL PACING/SYTLE

Imagine you go jogging every Sunday.  Well right now your jogging, as your turn the corner, we cut to you turning the corner last week, as you move your left foot forward we cut back to the present with your foot moved forward.  So it’s basically a thing were its 2 different days made to look like one day in a sequential sequence.  In reality its 2 different days, but they just seem to move together as one.  The Flashback scenes will be grainy and the lighting mood will be different to set a clear mark that this isn’t present time in the story.  Did that make sense?  I hope so, basically its 2 different days made to appear as though they were one continuous day.

Why cant’ she sleep?

MELISSA IS AN INSOMNIC; SHE CANNOT SLEEP, DUE TO INSECURITIES, STRESS, INNER CONFLICTS, ETC..

 What are the flashbacks?

THE MOVIE OF COURSE TAKES PLACE IN HER PRESENT DAY, BUT THE MOVIE PARRALELS WITH THE PAST, THE NIGHT THAT SHE KILLED HER HUSBAND IS SEEMINGLY REPLYING ITSELF IN HER MIND.  AND EACH EVENT SEEMS TO BE THE SAME AS THAT INFAMOUS NIGHT TO HER.

During the past, flashbacks, why can’t she sleep that night?

SHE CAN’T SLEEP THAT NIGHT, BECAUSE SHE FEARS BEING ALONE.  HER HUSBAND IS AWAY; THEREFORE SHE IS HAVING PROBLEMS SLEEPING SO TO KEEP HERSELF BUSY, AND TO KEEP FROM GETTING PARANOID FROM SLIGHT NOISES, SHE WRITES TO HERSELF.

What is she writing?

SHE IS WRITING, WHAT IS IN HER MIND, SO WHAT THE VOICE OVERS ARE, IN REALITY IS WHAT SHE IS READING FROM, SO WE’LL GET TO SEE THE WORDS AS SHE READS IT DURING SOME SCENES.  THE REASON BEING, SHE FEELS A LITTLE BIT MORE CONFORTED, FEELING THAT WRITING IS CLOSER TO TALKING TO SOMEONE, RATHER THAN JUST THINK ALL THESE THINGS CONSTANTLY IN HER MIND.

How come, during the flashback scene, she gets too scared, and shots so suddenly?

WELL THE FACT THAT HER HUSBAND HAS BEEN AWAY, SHE HASN’T GOTTEN MUCH SLEEP, AND WITHOUT SLEEP YOUR MIND STARTS TO PLAY TRICKS WITH YOU.  HER CONSCIENCE STATE WAS DELUSIONAL AND SHE SHOT OUT OF FEAR, BECAUSE SHE DID NOT EXPECT HIM TO BE COMING HOME, SHE THOUGHT HE’D STILL BE OUT OF TOWN, HE ENTERS SCREAMING “SURPRISE”, SHE TOOK IT AS A SIGN OF AGGRESSION, DUE TO HER INSTABLE, DELUSTIONAL HALF SLEEP STATE.

Why does she kill herself?

SHE KILLS HERSELF, BECAUSE SHE IS BEING HAUNTED BY THE MEMORY OF THAT NIGHT, DUE TO THE FACT SHE HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO SLEEP IN A WEEK BECAUSE OF IT.  WHEN SHE KILLED HER HUSBAND ACCIDENTLY, THIS LEFT A VOID IN HER, NOT ONLY EMOTIONALLY, BUT PYSHYICALLY, SHE COULD NOT SLEEP WITHOUT HIM.  AS THE NIGHTS HAVE GONE BY, SHE’S TRIED TO DO THINGS TO TAKE HER MIND OFF IT, SUCH AS READING, BUT IT HASN’T WORKED, AND TO END THE FLASHBACKS OF THAT NIGHT AND BY THE GUILT SHE FEELS, SHE KILLS HERSELF WITH THE SAME GUN, FINALLY FINDING PEACE IN THE END, AS SHE IS NOW WITH HER BELOVED HUSBAND.

What does this film suppose to show?

THE FILM IS A VISUAL PIECE AT BEST.  EMPLOYING A DIFFERENT STYLE OF STORY TELLING BY COMBINING TWO DAYS OF ELEMENTS AND BLENDING THEM TOGETHER AS THEY WERE ONE.  CHARACTER WISE, WE ARE SHOWCASING ONE WOMAN’s INSECURITIES, AND INSOMNIA PROBLEMS.  HOW SOMEONE CAN BE SO VULNERABLE WITHOUT ANOTHER PERSON, AND BE SO DEPENDENT UPON THEM.  IT ALSO SHOWS HOW DEEP TRUE LOVE CAN BE, WHEN WITHOUT THAT LOVED ONE YOU ARE PRACTIACALLY INOPERABLE, AND YOUR LIFE IS LOST IN A STATE OF VOID.
